BIRTH/DEATH: Thornton papers show birth c. 1795, estimated by census lists
      His tombstone shows 7 Sep 1791. Thornton believes tombstone could be
      in error. Death record indicates he was 65, and died on his birthday
      (7 Sep 1856), which would make the tombstone correct (Thornton shows
      4 Sep 1856).

Oct. 27, 1928, H.G. Creekmore, a great-grandson of the elder
Ballentine, stated that the elder Ballentine Creekmore had a son
BALLENTINE JR, who married a Miss (or Mrs.) Walling. He named as the
three other sons: Horatio Gates, Dave, and Charles.

Nov. 17, 1930, G.B. Creekmore, a great-grandson of Robert Creekmore,
wrote about the same family. He mentioned the boys as: Old Horatio,
Old Charley, One Ransom...raised a large family mostly girls, but
several sons, to wit, Caswell; Ivan; David; Ransom. All except
Caswell moved to Arkansas, Crawford County. Two daughters also moved
there, Mrs. Hampton Meadors and Mrs. William Campbell. All are dead
now. Perhaps all of them have children there now.

We are readily able to identify the man who "raised a large family
mostly girls"... and sons Caswell, Ivan (for Evan), David, Ransom.
The significant thing is that Green Berry called the man RANSOM and
that H.G. called the same man BALENTINE JR. We find him in the
records several times as Balentine R. and once as Ransom, but
thus far have failed to find him as Balentine Ransom. Their
statements convince me that we were correct in our reasoning.

Whitley County records disclose the name of RANSOM CREEKMORE at the
sale of the estate of Robert Creekmore after the death of his wife.

Whitley County Deeds, Book 2, page 360, recorded 4-4-1843, dated
7-16-1842, BALLENTINE R. CREEKMORE and wife MARY sold 50 acres on
Ryans Creek to Ruben MEADORS.

Deed Book 10, page 415. Recorded 6-10-1878, dated 4-12-1871. A deed
from BALLENTINE R. CREEKMORE Heirs to Calvin Criscillis. The heirs
selling the land were: DAVID CREEKMORE, SINTHA MEADORS, and PERMELIA
CAMPBELL.

In Will Book #2, page 150, a settlement of BALLENTINE R. CREEKMORE,
deceased, was made, and the articles were sold by James MEADORS,
Admr., Oct. 4, 1856.

The tombstone at Old Jellico, Whitley Co., KY, shows that B. R.
CREEKMORE was born September 7, 1791, and died September 4, 1856. As
a rule, the earliest appearance in a census is the most accurate
(depending on other factors, of course), and this may suggest that
B. R. CREEKMORE actually was born 1794-1800 rather than the 1791
date given on his tombstone.

We know that Cintha Creekmore married 1840 in Campbell Co., TN, and
she married Joseph -- not Hampton Meadors. From the 1880 census it
appears that Hampton Meadors had married about 1866 Lowrey ___, born
about 1843 -- her age is given as 37. William Campbell married 1863
Permelia Creekmore, suggesting that she was probably still at home
in 1850.

In the 1820 census of Whitley County [KY] we find one "Bachalor R.
Creekmore" living next door to the elder Balentine Creekmore. No
counterpart in the later or earlier census records has been found
for a "Bachalor R." except Balentine R., and I maintain that
"Bachalor R." is simply one of those unexplainable errors that
sometimes face us. "Bachalor R." had in his household:

1 male      16-26 (born 1794-1804)
   1 female    16-26 (born 1794-1804)
   2 females     -10 (born 1810-1820)

Bear in mind that we know for a fact that the Bachelor (son of
Robert) would have been 26-45 and would have had 2 daughters over
10, 2 sons and 1 daughter under 10 in 1820 [therefore this could not
be Robert's son].

In 1830 [Whitley Co., KY] we find one "RANSOM CREEKMORE" living
surrounded by Evan Waldon, Mathew Waldon, and William Walson. His
household contained:

           2 females   10-15 (1815-1820) Frances, Cintha
   2 males              5-10 (1820-1825) Son, Caswell
           2 females    5-10 (1820-1825) ??
   1 male  1 female       -5 (1825-1830) David, dau
           1 female    20-30 (1800-1810) Mary

Now, a family with 2 females over 10 should have appeared in 1820,
and Bachalor R. is the only Creekmore in 1820 with 2 daughters.

In 1840 Whitley County, we find "B. R. CREEKMORE" having in his
household:
