Found in Ruse Family, by Leland Ruse Smith, of Tabor, Ia.
John Ruse and his third wife, Margaret (Butler), are listed on the 1860
census in Sidney Twp., Fremont Co., Ia. Also John is listed on 1855 and 1856
old tax lists (poll tax only), and down through the 1864 tax list, but only for poll tax. The tax list books in Fremont Co. Iowa from 1864 to 1878 were
destroyed by insects before a concrete floor was installed in the courthouse
basement vault. The 1878 tax lists gives William (John Wm) Ruse, Robert Ruse, James A. and David Ruse, but no John Ruse. He apparently died within that time, as no record can be found of his death or burial, nor that of his wife, Margaret.
