Charles stayed in Kentucky to harvest the crops when the family moved to Illinois. He had to serve with the Confederacy (South) during the Civil War and his younger brother had to serve with the Union Army (North). Both his and William's names are on a monument in Jacksonville Illinois. Per the Jacksonville Area Genealogical And Historical Society booklet.
