Reuben Rose operated a large custom feeding business and fed
perhaps a thousand animals every fall. He married Elizabeth
McCubbins, whose father Zachariah McCubbins owned a large farm
adjoining his farm. Reuben Rose, after his children were all
married sold his town property in 1837 to Peter Markah, and
built a fine house on his farm one mile south of Tazewell. He
called his farm "Egypt", because of the amount of grain he
would grow. He could feed most of the farmers in the area. He
was a large slave owner and contributed greatly to the
community.
