wedlock. The baby's name was Orlie CHASE. Orlie's children are Wayne and
William  Paul.

Fairview United Methodist Cemetery in Jonesborough, TN.  He had 6  brothers
that were in the war also.
---------------------
CHASE FAMILY - Submitted by Mabel McAmis
The tradition and lineage of the Chase family begins in England with Wat
CHASE or his father. Wat and Elizabeth CHASE settled in Sullivan Co., Tenn. in
1801. Their son, John P. CHASE had 8 sons, of which 7 served in the Civil War
in the 60th Tennessee Regiment from 1861 until the end of the war. Three of
the soldiers were sent to a prison camp in Vicksburg, Mississippi. When
released, they were given 3 days' rations from the Federal Army and set out on
foot to return home the best way they could.
After returning from the war, Joseph Clark CHASE married Sarah FINK in 1875.
They had 8 children - 2 boys and 6 girls. The youngest son Samuel H. CHASE
married Estelle BASKETT who had a twin sister, Esther. Esther and Estelle also
had a set of twin sisters, Mary and Mattie.
After making their home in Greene County, Samuel and Estelle had 9 children,
5 girls and 4 boys. In 1927, they had a set of quadruplets - 3  boys and 1
girl. This was not only unique for the family, but this is the first recorded
set of quadruplets born in Tennessee. All of the quadruplets lived until the
age of 10 months, at which time 2 of the boys died. The other son and daughter
are still living in Greene County.
The oldest son, Glen, was killed May 3, 1945, while serving in World War II
aboard the U.S.S. Little near Okinawa in the South Pacific.
To date the descendants of Samuel and Estelle include 4 living children, 9
grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
State Archives, Nashville, Tenn., Libraries, Greeneville, Tenn.,
Blountville, Tenn., and Jonesboro, Tenn. also my own memories.'

============================================================================

From Dale Fink, June 1997:
In June 1997 we have proof that Mary FINK married John SAYLOR. They had
eight children. We find a Richard Henry MORELOCK making the coffins for three
of the SAYLOR children and sending the bill to the oldest brother.  This could
indicate that John died at a reasonably young age, leaving his oldest child to
pick up the bill for the coffins,

BURIAL: Fink Cemetery

Mary HULSE

UPDATE: 1998-02-28

--------------------------------------------------------

From Don Fink:
 By R. Dale Fink - March 10, 1997
There was a marriage certificate issued to George FINK and Mary KEEN on  Jan.,
7, 1838. They were married by Thomas FULKERSON Esq. An attempt will be made to
find a marriage certificate for Mary PICKENS and George FINK, to determine if he
married a "KEEN" instead of a "PICKENS".
-------------------
In the Double Springs Cemetery the following has been reported: There is an M.
H. FINK (fieldstone marked as follows)
 BN  Jan 6, 1815
 Dc  Aug 5, 1866
It is highly possible that this could be George W. FINK's first wife, Mary ____
PICKENS or Mary ____ KEEN. Also her grandson Willis E. FINK is  buried there.
The date which the lower cemetery was recorded is unknown, except that it was
before the recording of the upper cemetery which was Aug. 23, 1964. This would
be 33 years ago. By now the old field stone, if it is even  still there, may be
erased by mother nature to the point that it can never again be read.
On March 10, 1997 I returned to Double Springs Cemetery with all the necessary
tools, chemicals and equipment to uncover the above information if it did exist.
I had established a plan for finding the lost field stone. I had listed about
eight grave markers which I expected to find on each side of Mary, taking these
from the previously mentioned cemetery listing. I had also established the
location of each of the other FINK's buried in the cemetery, as I expected to
find her near one of them. After about 20 minutes searching I began to find the
graves which I had listed, but no sign of Mary's field stone.
After another 30 minutes I had selected a stone and began to clean. Sure enough
it was Mary's stone and the data began to slowly appear. After a couple of hours
cleaning I now had the  following information standing out clearly. I was amazed
that a field stone, hand carved, could be in this good a condition after being
exposed to the elements for 131 years. Not many commercially purchased stones
will last much longer than this. However, there it was as clear as day, and
every character and numerial as clear as the day it was carved. The  exact
information is as follows:
 M. H. FINK
 S.BN. JAN. THE 6 1815
 DC. AUG. THE 5 1866
I have not figured out what the "S" in front of the birth date indicates, but I
am confident that this is correct in every detail.
The grave stone was photographed during the cleaning process and after
completion. I now regret that I did not photograph it before starting to clean
it, but at the time I was not sure that this was her rock and failed to do so.
I then recut the existing inscription and treated and sealed the stone to
preserve it for a few more years. The stone is attempting to split in 1/4"
sheets and I am not sure how long it will be until the face flakes off and the
inscription will be lost forever. Sooner or later as water gets behind the
flakes and freezes, the ice wil force the face off. When this does happen, we
now have the data on record and can replace the stone if we should ever decide
to do so.
The location of the stone within the cemetery is as follows: Near the center
of the main cemetery, approximately 100 feet from the cemetery gate and half way
between W. E. FINK and John W. & Nanny E. FURGUSON.
There are 3 graves with field stone markers below Mary, and 5 graves between
her and W. E. FINK. Then there are about 4 more graves above W. E. FINK with
field stone markers. None of these field stones have any inscription on them, so
it is not known who may be buried here. There may be several more of the early
Fink's in this very area. I guess we will never know. But at least we now know
that the possibility exists. John Michael and Sarah, as well as their parents
could be buried in this very area. I understand that the Church was established
around 1787, before the passing of most of our ancestors. Who lies between Mary
and  W. E. FINK may remain a mystery forever.
By entering the above text we are not encouraging wild speculation, but
retaining the existing data, as we found it, lest it be lost for eternity to the
elements.
------------------------------
By Don Fink Feb. 1998
Recently a recorded deed was found. It indicated that some land was being
divided up and given by George W. FINK to his children, (by his first wife) the
grandchildren of James P. HULSE. Therefore, at this  time I am changing the name
of his first wife to Mary (Polly) HULSE instead of Mary (Polly) PICKENS. If the
correct name is ever discovered, I will change it."

From Don Fink:
"Jacob was injured in the Civil War. Thomas C. FINK and 2nd wife Ida May
HORNE looked after him until he died in 1918. His injuries left him mentally
ill.
1860 Census show Jacob to be born in 1848.
