p. 5. "Martha PICKENS lived in Cabarrus County, NC when she married FALL.
Mary Clark CORRIGAN, granndaughter of Martha PICKENS made a statement in the
settlement papers of her father, James CLARK, that she inherited from her
grandmother Martha FALLS. John and Martha FALLS sold 200 acres of land Oct. 10
1774 which had been granted to John FALLS May 5, 1768 on south fork of
Cathey's Creek (Lincoln Co. NC Deed Bk. 2, p. 120)." [NOTE: originally the
name was given as MCFALL, but Rev. Sharp changed it by hand to read FALL in

"Mrs. Martha PICKENS, widow of Israel obtained a grand of land in Anson Co.,
NC on 20 May 1754, 514 acres on the n side of Kings Creek, a branch of Catawba
R. (Raleigh land grant files). ... Mrs. Martha PICKENS and all her children
came to Mecklenburg and Waxhaw section of the Carolinas. We think we have
proof that later Martha m. John FALLS and lived in Lincoln Co., NC. A
grand-daughter of hers made statement in an estate settlement, "that she
inherited from Grandmother FALLS (Martha)."

1800 - named in the will of his uncle, William PICKENS, of Cabarrus Co,
NC (Day, THE PICKENS FAMILY, p. 28, Easley SC, 1951) 1808, 6 Jun - His
father, Samuel, deeded 165 acres to his son James. This
was part of the old Samuel PICKENS' land, and lies about 3 miles from Poplar
Tent Church towards the Mecklenburg line, and about 10 or 12 miles from the
Rock River Church. The deed was witnessed by William and Ibby PICKENS. [Day]
1808, 23 Jun - married in Cabarrus Co., NC
1810 - in AL (MS Territory).
1819 - actively involved in creating the State of AL.--------------------------------------
PICKENS FAMILIES OF THE SOUTH, by E. M. Sharp (1963):
p. 6. '...had no children. He was in Alabama (Mississippi Territory) as
early as 1810. Mary CARSON PICKENS died in 1853. They reared several nephews
and nieces, among them being James Pickens ROSSEAU. James PICKENS was active in
the establishment of Alabama as a state in 1819.'
p. 7. "Robert PICKENS is listed as a brother [to James and John PICKENS] in a
deed in Greene Co., Alabama in settling the estaet of John C. PICKENS of Greene
Co. Robert sold land in Cabarrus Co., NC that Capt. Samuel PICKENS had deeded to
James PICKENS, his son, in 1808. This sale occured 1828 and 1829...
p. 10 'Greene Co AL, Deed Book O, pg 786: James PICKENS and wife Mary...
[and others] heirs at law of John C. PICKENS, deceased, that is to say: James
PICKENS being the brother ... make deed to Samuel PICKENS, 31 acres of land in

p. 28. William PICKENS left a will in Cabarrus Co., NC in 1800 in which he
left money to 'James, the oldest son' of his brother Samuel.
