by Idus Davis (Enc #P-104).
 DAR National #222743.  Mrs Kerr Reid Wilkerson, Mrs. J. E., York SC -
accepted Apr 17, 1926):
 "My revolutionary ancester, William DAVIS was born in Pennsylvania in 1724
and died in 1780.  His place of residence during Revolution was Anson County
NC. [line of descent given up to Martha, as follows]
 "..5.  The said Martha DAVIS was the child of William DAVIS, b. 1724, d.
1780 and his wife Kathryn PICKENS, b. 1730; d. 1811; m. 1747...
 The said William DAVIS is the ancestor who assisted in establishing American
Independence while acting in the capacity of Captain, Major, and Lieutenant-
Colonel.
 American Services: Major William DAVIS, sometimes in the early days spelled
"DAVIES" was the son of Andrew DAVIS who came to Anson Co., NC in the same
year as Andrew PICKENS and Israel PICKENS, all taking up land in the same
vicinity".

Descendant of Lieut. Andrew CARETHERS, William BLAIR, and Lt. Col. William
DAVIS and Robert PARKS....

William DAVIS and William PICKENS were captains from Anson county, NC in the
first NC Regiment in 1775.  In 1776 the provisional congress at Halifax
commissioned William DAVIS major.  He is supposed to have been killed or died
in the war and his widow given land in what is now Rutherford county whither
she moved with her son Thomas, who was also given land.
 William DAVIS of Anson county NC, Capt. 1st. NC Reg't. Sep 1, 1775. Major,
Apr 10 1776, and Lt. Col. Feb 5, 1777.  Retired Jun 1, 1778.  Hietman. p. 189
NC Reg. Vol X, p. 187, 508. Xvi. p. 1039 and 17, p. 204." [END]

THE DAVIS FAMILY: WITH CROCKETT AND PICKENS CONNECTIONS, compiled by E. M.
Sharp, from research done by Mr. D. L. McWhorter of Bethel NC in the Archives
of the State of North Carolina and Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina;
 p. 6.  "William DAVIS is named in his father's will. There is dispute as to
which William he is. One claim is made that he is the man who married
Katherine PICKENS, daughter of Andrew PICKENS, Sr.  Another claim is made that
the Wm. who married Katherine was son of Andrew DAVIS.  Other claim is that
William married a Miss ORR.  The following is likely the son of Robert DAVIS:
 His will was dated Feb. 28, 1797 - proved Jan. Term, 1800.
 Witnesses: Alex ORR, and Samuel MCCULLOCH.
 Executors: Sons - Andrew and Henry DAVIS, and s.I. James MCCUNE.
 Children: William, Henry, John, Andrew, Mary DAVIS; son-in-law and wife Ann
 PORTER; Joseph BATEY, and Margaret; James MCCUNE; William SCOTT and Betsey."

 p. 30. "Major William DAVIS and William PICKENS were Captains inthe First NC
