Age 86, To Oregon 1868, left IN for Bourbon County, KS, resided in NC, KY, IN, OH, IA in 1852 moved to KS in 1858, and finally OR in 1887.  Census, 1870 Anderson, KS

1890  IN OREGON

The Ox Bell used on lead oxen by Nathan is n the Oregon Historical Museum. According to the lady at the Museum on Sep 9, 2003, nathan got the bell from a plantation in 1852, brougth it to Oegon in 1885 and his grandson, Orson Hiatt donated it to the Museum in 1948.  At this time it is not on display.

Note: INFO about Nathan's birth and eath are from his tombstone.
          INFO about his family received March 2, 1968 from national Archives Prnsion File.  Theys ent copies of ht lette Nathan's daughter mary M. OIrwig sent them seeking her widowns' pension.  It is full of she and her husbands parents, brothers and sisters  names and dates.

Newspaper Obituary:  Aug 13, 1897, "Nathan Hiatt, Pioneer settler of Anderson County,  settled near Cedar Bluffs east of Ganet in 1858, died Aug. 3, 1897 age 66yrs (in Mist, OR, MEO)  Children:  J. G. Hiatt, Mrs. Norris and Mrs. J. W. Campbell."  ALso in the Republican Plainsdealer Newspaper, Aug. 13, 1897.

1897, Aug 13, from Anderson County Gleanings pg. 418, Settling near Ceda Hill east of Garnet in 1858, He weny to Oregon ten years ago to reside with two sons.


Elizabeth Cora (Betsy) TILLSON

Elizabeth was said to be Choctaw Indian.  She was said to be a doctor.

She was a sister of Sarah Tillson Hiatt who married Nathan's first cousin, Aaron Hiatt.  See Hiatt/Hiett Book Volume I by William Perry Johnson, ref. #851 & 876.

I also have her name as Elizabeth Waltham Hiatt, (by Millie O'Connor)

Elizabeth G. Hiatt, wife of N. Hiatt, Died Feb. 11, 1870, aged 33y 3 m., 8 d. from "Anderson Co. Kansas, family stories and HIstory, by D. Lickteig, pg. 44.

She is buried in Lot#66 2-3 miles NW of Garnet KS, there are no other Hiatt's buried in that Lot #67, was owned by William F. Hiatt and Lot #68 owned by J. C. (G.?) Hiatt.
