This story was told to me by Michael Clemens GG Grandson of William.  It seems that William was attempting to "moss the cow" when he was killed by a falling tree.  Evidently the tree was being cut down so the cow could eat the moss from it's branches.  William had cut thru the tree and as it started to fall he saw that the cow was in the way so he attempted to move it out of harms
way  and the tree fell on him instead.
