Historical Notes:

King of Yugoslavia (1934-45), grandson of Peter I Karageorgevich, King
of Serbia.  Peter succeeded to the throne under the regency of his uncle, Prince
Paul (1893-1976), after his father's assassination in 1934.  In 1941, during WW
II, the Yugoslavs ousted the pro-Axis administration of the regent. Peter
assumed full control and brought his kingdom into the war on the Allied side,
whereupon the Germans invaded and occupied Yugoslavia.  Peter fled to Great
Britain, where he established a Yugoslav government in exile.  In 1945, at the
end of the war, Yugoslavia became a Communist republic;  Peter remained in
exile.
