Harlon HIATT

Sent by Bernice Norris, Frank Cox.  Harlon Hiatt married 4 times.  Son Lewis of Neb.  Martha Jane (Harlon's daughter) married into the Miami tribe with the chief being Godfroy.
  From a letter by Blanche ANDERSON of Kansas:  He married 4 times, left one son, Lewis HIATT of Nebraska, long since past away.  She also said that one of our Quaker ancestors married into the Miami Tribe with the Chief being Godfrey.

   According to a letter by Blanche Anderson, of Kansas, many of Harlan's family are buried in the Shambaugh, IA cemetery.
   Who were the parents of Harlan HIATT, born ca. 1828 in OH, who married Martha A. NUFF/NIFF ca 1858, Page Co., IA and married 2nd to Emily Jane (Brown) BARTHOLOMEW, widow of William, ca 1879 Page Co., IA.
   Harlan had two children, at least, with Martha Jane (b. 1859, Page Co., IA) and Lewis M. (b. 1866 Page Co., IA); none that I know of with Emily BROWN.

     Emily died in NE ca 1890; what about Harlan?

Eramus (Ross) VAN METER

Sent by Bernice Norris.  Eramus was killed in the service during the Civil War.  He was the S/o Benjamin Van Meter and Hannah McQueen.

                         Tuesday, Sept 20, 1910
  Mrs. Julia Ann Van Meter died Monday night at 9 o'clock at the home of her
son, Martin Van Meter, five miles south of Kewanna.  She had been sick for four weeks, cause of death was heart trouble.  She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs. David Hiatt of Henry Co. In the latter part of 1850 she was united in marriage to Eramus Van Meter.  This union 3 children, William Van Meter of near Culver being the surviving child.  The husband was a soldier in Civil War, but died on battlefield.  A few years later she married the brother of her first husband, John Wan Meter, to them four children were born, two of whom are living.  Martin with whom she was living at death and John.  There is also one brother, Harmon Hiatt whose home is in Wayne Township; seven grandchildren.  There will be no funeral services, burial at Round Lake Cem. Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock.

  Until the end of the Civil War they lived in Cass, Fulton and Pulaski Co. and then came west to Iowa.
  After his wife died he went to Kansas. He died Dec. 29, 1900 in Bern, Nemaha Co., KS.  Buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha, KS.  Cannot find where David is buried.
