KURCZYN

from Doc K-32-1, extracted from AOY:"When they first arrived in Montreal,
Jefferson Davis and his family had been greatly in need of help. They were
taken for some time into the house of John Lovell, which stood on St. Catherine
St. facing Phillips Square. In 1945 Mrs. W.S. Foster, a daughter of John
Lovell, wrote:'Before they went to the Mountain St. house, my father found them
in a miserable boarding house, and asked them to stay for several weeks at his
house, which stood on the site now occupied by the store of Henry Morgan and
Company. The friendship begun then was continued for many years, especially
with Winnifred Davis, who was called the Daughter of the Confederacy."
