Notes

Lawrence Charles SMITH

buried at Fort Rosecrans Nat Cem parents Lloyd Llewyn Smith and Doris Mary Noah
Retired after 21 years Naval Service

from Doc O-141-1:"Lawrence Smith was born in the woods of Oregon, as his father
was a lumberjack. He had a twin brother, Lloyd, who is still living. When he
was just a baby a blizzard stranded the mother and children in the cabin, which
was some miles from the nearest town. After some time, the food and water
dwindled to almost nothing, and the snow was too deep for anyone to get to
them. The mother was desperate, and knew that it was a matter of time before
they all perished. She decided to start out on foot to reach town, but knew
that she could only take one of the babies. She finally made up her mind as to
which of the twins that she would take, and which one she would have to leave
behind. She started out with one of the twins and had only gone a short way
before a rescue team met up with her, and they returned to the cabin. She never
did tell anyone which one of the twins she took and which one she left behind."
