Pearsonal history of Ralph Kleo Hiatt written by daughter Nedra Ellen Hiatt Peart.
He was second son of James Franklin Haitt Sr. and Christina Gerturde
Mitchell. He was born in the winter months of Dec 9, 1900 at Payson, Utah.
His brother was James Franklin Hiatt Jr. sister Martha Gerturde and Corniela
and baby brother Lewis Mitchell Hiatt were all born in Payson, UTAH.
Grampa was a farmer and the chidlren learned early to help with all the
chores. Daddy was given responsibilites that were pretty big for a little boy of eight. He was handling two mules when they got his hand caught up in the rope some how. It pulled the end of two fingers off. He complanined that there was ants crawling on his fingers and hand of course there really wasn't. His constant complaining prompted Grandpa to go out where the rest of his fingers were and buried them. This experience was given to me by my Uncle James Franklin Hiatt Jr.
The principles of the gospel was taught in the home iwht my father gaining a testimony of them. He gained his education in Payson, Utah and graduated from Payson High School 1921. His favorite sport was football. During one of the games a player accidently stepped on his face and broke his nose.
Grandma Hiatt died of a sudden illness when he was 18 years old. This was his worst time it seems to me, as I think of Lou he talked about Grandma always with tears coming to his eyes. I could tell how much he loved her. She must have been a lovely person. He never married early, though he told me of going to dances in the small communities around. He stayed and lived with my grandpa till he met and married my mother. He was 37 years old then, Ida May Throckmorton Lee a widow of John Alphis Lee. She had three daughters, and one son living. Then I was born in Feb 16, 1939. Daddy was 40 and mama 48.
He made our living on his 25 acres then hired on at Geneva Steel Plant, he
started in with real bad headaches, then doctors operated on his head, did all sorts of tests finally deciding he had what they call vascular headaches. He sure suffered with them, Mama and daddy were married 26 1/2 years when mama had a stoke, she was an invalid for 6 months before passing away Nov 21, 1961. Being very lonesome and having found another good companion, Dora Alice Crook Kincade, married her Jun 28, 1963 in Manti Temple. They were very happy, Toots fixed and pampered daddy. His health was bad. Mainly bad headaches. He got very discouraged at times. He worried about me being sealed to mama and not him. On day a little while before he died he called me to his bedside and asked who I was going to choose in the next life me or mama. I told him not to worry as Heavenly Father was a just God and wouldn't let mama have all the childen and him none. I think this pleased him. I loved both my parents very much. Dads health just kep getting worse. He passed away 31 Mar 1973 at Provo, Utah. Toots was in the hospital and had just been released a few days. We buried him at Payson Cem., Payson, Utah.
