John Curtis HIATT

Obituaries
   John "Jack" Hiatt, 85, of La Grande, died Saturday, June 6, 1992 at
Mountain Vista Care Center.
   A graveside service will be held at 3 pm.  Saturday at the Hillcrest
Cemetery with Richard Hiatt, Jim Huber and Elmer Perry officiating.
  Mr. Hiatt was born July 8, 1906, at Baker, to John and Julia (Roundy) Hiatt.
He graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1924.  On August 15,
1931 he married Wilma L. "Sally" Gaskill.  She died on Sept 27, 1988.
   Mr. Hiatt worked for the Oregon Highway Department and was resident
engineer in La Grande until his retirement in 1972.
   He was a member of the First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints, where he was an elder, teacher and organist.  He was a lifelong
outdoors person and an accomplished musician.
   Survivors include his son Douglas Grant Hiatt, Arlington, Va.; daughter,
Carol Ann Farris, La Grande, brother, Richard Gordon Hiatt, La Grande, sister
Barbara Bean, Oregon City; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and
other relatives.
  A son, Curtis Gaskill Hiatt died in 1961.  His brothers, Elwood LeRoy Hiatt
and David Roundy Hiatt, also died earlier.
   Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Mr. Hiatt to the Oregon
Heart Association or the Oregon Cancer Fund in care of Daniles Vally Funeral
Chapel, 1502 Seventh St.


Wilma Louise (Sally) GASKILL

Obituaries
   Wilma L. (Sally) Hiatt, 79, of La Grande, died Thursday at Mountain Vista
Care Center.
   Mrs. Hiatt was born on Oct. 19, 1908 to Jesse and Jennie (Woodell) Gaskill
at Alicel.  She was a La Grande High School graduate and a member of the Pi Phi
Sorority at the University of Oregon, Eugene.  She married John C. (Jack) Hiatt
at Alicel on Aug 17, 1931.  She was a life-long Eastern Oregon resident.
   Mrs. Hiatt was a member of the United Methodist Church.  She loved hunting,
fishing, and the outdoors.
   Survivors include her husband daughter, Carol Ann Farris, La Grande; son,
Douglas Grant Hiatt, Arlington, Va.; sister, LaNita Gaskill, La Grande, six
grandchildren; one great-grandson; and other relatives and friends.
   A son, Curtis Gaskill Hiatt, and sister, Lola Hutchison died earlier.
   A graveside service for Mrs. Hiatt is planned for 11 a.m Monday at the
Hillcreast Cemetery.  Richard G. Hiatt of the La Grande Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints will officiate.
   The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer
Society.  These can be sent in care of Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel, 1502
Seventh St.
