J.D., I believe, stands for James Dillon.  I have written down the J.D. Hiatt and wife, Sarah Ann came across the plains to San Francisco, then came to Portland, OR by boat, then to Plainview near Brownsville, then later to Lyons prior to 1889.  They owned the Hot Air mill below Lyons, and at one time they had a general merchandise store in Lyons.  J.D. or Grandpa HIATT was a captain in the Civil War.  They had 10 children. Two died early in life.  The chdlren that I know are:
Amos Leonard HIATT; Alta HIATT BODEKER, Eva HIATT BRESSLER, Elmer HIATT and Charles HIATT.

His son, Amos, was born in Calidona, Ringo Co., IA on Sept. 20, 1870.  At the age of 13 he came to OR with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Hiatt settling in Linn County, where he spent the remainder of his life.  On Nov. 17, 1895, he married Martha Lyons.

I did find a listing for a James Dillon HIATT, but can't connect the one I found with the information I already have.  It's missing the one small link.  I just keep working at it though.  It keeps me busy and I have a lot of fun trying to track everything down.

.  There are two closely related cousins, James Dillon Hiatt son of Amos and James Dillion Hiatt son of John, brothers.  Hiatt Histroy Volume I has James son of Amos married to Hannah Miller, while James son of John is not carried forth in marriages.  Speculating here trying to cover submissions at this time.

Reviewing, there seems to be some errors, mix ups with marriages. Arthur Hiatt has Hannah Miller married to William H. Hiatt, while William H. is married to Alena Ann WIlkinson
