   Nov 12, 1930: Mr and Mrs. P.S. Hiatt celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary.  She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Scott.  Their first home was the house built for them on a farm on which Mr. Hiatt was born, one mile east of Hiattsville.

   Mr. Hiatt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hiatt, were first settlers in Taylor Township, coming to Iowa from North Carolina.  Mrs. Hiatt's parents were amoung the first settlers, coming here from Virginia.

   Mr. Hiatt remembers there was an abundance of wild turkey, pheasants and other game, and no governments and  no government restrictions on hunting.  Winters at that time were more severe.  The year they were married (1880) snow began falling Dec 13.  The roads were drifted full in many places, and when, on April 15, they drove to her parents, they were the first team through on the road since December.  Transportation had been routed through fields in many places.
