History of Holt County, Missouri, 1917 pg. 156
Among the residents of Oregon, Holt Co., who went to Calif. gold fields on May 1, 1849, were William Thorp and Riley Thorp. The company reached
Sacramento in October in 1849. They were delayed in arrival by earlier
pranksters who placed misleading signposts on the trial.Would like to compare and keep in mind Owen Thorp/Tharp who married Elizabeth Hiatt, dau of John Hiatt and Susannah Anderson and had 2 children, nothing further known of that line, no first names, only from will of John Hiatt, 1832 of Liberty, Clay Co., MO. Would it not be fun if this was one a direct line connection! Larry Anderson (Own b. abt 1805, died on his way to Texas with the father in law of his second wife.)
Sent by Mildred Wynes and Max Hiatt of Centerville, Iowa.

CENSUS
Age is stated as 74 years old in the 1850 Census of Appanoose Co. IA.
Reported in the 1850 Census as 74 years old and living in the home of Lewis Hiatt b. 1818 in NC and his wife Rachel Swaim Hiatt. I have no proof but am assuming based on this unproven evidence that Lewis is probably her son.
