My grandfather was George Wilson Hyatt b. 27 Feb 1889 in Surry Co., NC. He was the son of Thomas Hiatt and Lydia Draughn married Sept 27, 1885 in Eldora Twp., Surry Co., NC. Thomas was born about 1863. Thomas is the son of Martin Hiatt and Mary A. Paterson married September 17, 1855 in Surry Co., NC. Martin was married twice and had the following children:George W. Hiatt Thomas A. Hiatt
James M. D. V. Hiatt
Wesley M. Martha Hiatt Fulk
Columbus M. Emma V. Hiatt Marsh
Melissa C. Hiatt ReidMary was Thomas' second marriage. Some of the children listed above are from his first marriage, however, I do not know which ones. According to marriage listings, Mary is listed as the mother of D. V. Hiatt and Melissa C. Hiatt as well as Thomas.
I have been unable to find Martin's parents. I do know he had a brother named Gabriel Hiatt who was living with him in the 1850 Surry Co., NC Census. Martin was 31 and a miller at the time. Gabriel was 22 and a hammerman. The spelling of HIATT changed to HYATT when Thomas and Lydia moved to Virginia in the early 1900's. I spoke with a decendant of Columbus who said that their spelling also changed to HYATT when he left to Virginia then West Virginia. Do you know who Martin's parents are? The family story has always said that our family came over from Germany and he put his family on his boat one night, and then left the next morning. There was mention of a Hannah in NC, but no one knows who she was. We also knew that the spelling of the name had changed, but for what reason we do not know. I hope you can help me, the Hyatt-Hiatt family has been a brick wall for me!! I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for the information, ... This line has been very difficult to find information on. My father died two and a half years ago, so I have been tryting to remember everything I had heard him say (Which wasn't very much, he had not heard much himself). I have been picking my mom's brain to find things that maybe she remembered. My dad has one brother and one sister left now (There were ten children). I spoke with my Uncle but there wasn't much he could tell me.
Martin P. Hiatt had a son named Thomas who is my great grandfather. You are welcome to what I know about Thomas and of course, my grandfather, George Wilson HYATT.From Bill Hyatt, 22 Feb 2008:
