Asa was born in the home of Jonathan Sr. where he was living as of 1940 when Maude Pugh wrote her book, Capon Valley, It's Pioneers and Their Descendants 1698-1940.
He had a large family all married and gone to their own homes, as of 1939. They lived for many years with Asa's parents, Jonathan and Mary Hiett. Mary once said, "No better daughter-in-law could have been had if made to order." Florence lovingly nursed her in her last illness. Asa and Florence were good neighbors and followed in the parents footsteps in church work. Florence being a member of the Christian Church. Church attendance came natural to her as there was no better Christian woman in the community than Mrs. Isaac Grapes. Florence's mother whom she very soon followed to her reward, passing away during the winter of 1932 from the effects of the "flu." They are buried near Augusta Asa now lives alone, in the old home, aged about 74, Florence was a few years younger.

Laura devoted her life to domestic duties and the Church, having early in life married Charley Smith. She ignores denominational lines and works harmoniously with her husband who is a Methodist. Tehy are Holiness advocates.
Charles comes of a ministerial line. They at first began housekeeping at Martinsburg, then removed to Burlington, W.Va. where Mr. Smith was engaged in flour manufacture but finally they removed to the old Smith plantation in the beautiful valley above mentioned.
