Caleb Dr. HIATT

I am missing the entire line from Caleb forward, all notes, letters, docs, records, etc. welcome. Please also communicate with your cousins I have been in touch with. Thanks, soo much to go thru. Larry Anderson
! Caleb had seven children, moved to Oregon, no further information, no spouse or children's information. See pg. 321 of HH book, #865
(866.) CALEB HIATT (231.) (38.) (4.) (1.): m. ---- ----; to Oregon; seven children.
Thanks again for all you have sent yesterday and today. Most of my info and documentation on Caleb Hiatt is in a big 4-5"book, with parts of each family still not finished or doc. Just about the time I am sure it is complete new stuff turns up.
Like Caleb Hiatt's daughter, Eliza Jane. It took 5 years to find all her husbands and kids and get it documented by going up and down the I-5 Hwy to different counties and towns looking for her and then just last year I found her on the side of her younger sister's first husbands tombstone and checked it out to make sure it was the right person. Eliza Jane was was married to Mr. Miller and had her daughter. I bleieve he died. Then she married a Mr. U;Ren who was already married and she took her maiden name back for her and her 2nd child, James Malhure Hiatt. The court may have insisted she do this I was told. This is the child that Caleb and Rebecca Hiatt adopted. I still can't find any court records or info any where for Mr. U'ren although the name is found in OR, just not the right person, place or age. I have been down to the Oregon Archives many times. They know my face down there and help out all they can. Now that Christmas is over I plan to get back into my genalogy, but it is hard as I have 21 great-grand kids and 3 more on the way and found out I have another step great too, so that makes 25 or something like that. I try to take pix anytime I am around any of them just to watch them grow.
I will see what I can do about Caleb's family and send it off to you. I think of you as being the "Father" of the whole Hiatt clan in my mind. Millie O'Connor
Larry, Thank you for all you do and send out. I have the Hiatt Book by Wm. P Johnson but it is in two vol. The reason I say all this is to let you know there is an error and to add more to one family. To get to this family I will start at the top(according to the book) and get down to this family. As you know each of these had many more children. John & Mary Smithh Hiatt had Wm. who m. Alice Lowden Wm & Alice had Isaac who m. Martha Thomas Isaac & Martha had John who m. Margaret Nichols John and Margaret had Caleb Hiatt, Dr. who married Rebecca Brown Dr. Caleb Hiatt and Rebecca are the family I am going to talk about here.
The book says they had 7 children, but they really had 8. They also adopted one of their many grandsons, James Malhure Hiatt and in the 1880 census they listed his (james)half-sister Ella Miller as a foster duaghter. Both of these children were kids of Caleb and Rebecca's Eldest girl Eliza Jand (Hiatt) Miller, Uren, Wheeler. Her story is long and sad. I have not finished with this family as I have so many more I am working on, but Calib and Rebecca, Eliza Jane Wheeler, and several more family members are buried just a few blocks from my home here in Forest Grove OR. As an interesting note I live on Nichols Ln. Some of the children of Caleb and Rebecca had children, but there were many deaths too, so not many grandkids continued on down. Two of the children married into two other prominant familes here in Washington County back in the 1800's.
Now my great-great grandpa was Caleb's first cousin, Nathan Hiatt, son of Isaac Hiatt, Jr. and Hannah Sulgrove and Nathan died here in OR. although there is a marker in a cemetery in Garnett, Anderson, KS for him. He is buried in an almost forgotten cemetery in the timber of Columbia County, OR. I tell you all this as none of us are getting any younger and someday one of Caleb's down line might look for info on him. I have spent over 8 years researching and documenting this family as I believe they are the reason my family came to OR.

Hi, Yes loong time no hear. My address is Millie O'Connor 1224 Nichols LN Forest Grove, OR 97116 Where are you now? They had a surprise 75th BD party for me yesterday and I got to see my week old 22 great-grandbaby. How is that for carrying on the family? I know who each of them belong to and their names, but I just can't seem to remember all their birthdays, so I wrote on a page on my computer for easy access. Millie

I used to live in Aloha for over 50 years, but am now in Forest Grove. You and part of your family met up with myself and part of my family or some cousins a number of years ago. It has been so many years ago that you probably don't remember that meeting and now my hair is all white/gray. I believe you were here in the Portland area, but maybe not, I just can't remember.
I have your Hiatt Book in two books, from the Higgins people long ago. I know you used to have a Hiatt Letter that went out, but I had lost contact with you.
The lady that sent my email on, is a new member to a Genealogical group that I belong to in HIllsboro so it is funny how we meet new relatives. I have been placing flowers on her Great grandparents and other family members for years along with mine. I belong to the Anson J Orwig and wife Mary Melissa (Hiatt) Their siblings married - Wm. Franklin Hiatt to Melinda Ann (Orwig). Anson and Mary had 10 kids and Wm. Frank and Melinda had 14. Wm Frank Hiatt was an older brother of Gersham Palmer Hiatt often spelled dfferent. All this is in you Hiatt book. These Hiatts were the sons of Nathan Hiatt and Elizabeth (Tillson). Nathan was a first cousin to Caleb Hiatt who is in your book too, but you have very little info on he or his family.
I am gathering info on Caleb who by the way was Dr. Caleb Hiatt and that is on his tombstone in the Forest Grove Mt.View Cemetery here off Thatcher road.. I am trying to put together a book on Caleb and his down line since there is so little to be found in one place. I have been gathering and researching on Caleb and all the other Hiatts closely related to me meaning the ones mentioned above.
It is good to hear from you at long last and I hope you and your family are all doing well. Sincerely, Millie O'Connor

I am Larry Anderson, been acting Pres of the National Hiatt/Hiett Family Organization for many years, even though now it is mostly just myself finishing up what I can until others take it over, everyone else about passed away by now that I had worked with. Am very interested in your work, your family and would love to share all that I have as well with you. I had published a couple of books as well as republished the original Hiatt/Hiett Vol. I History, added about 120 pages and quite a lot on all branches of our families. Please feel free to contact myself anytime. My data base is over 390K at this time, lots of cousins of several names there in OR and WA, including some of my closer Hiatt lines. I joined a genealogy society here in town and got this e-mail back this morning when I opened it up, as usually I always get the goose bumps and I'm still alive is what I call it. I thought I'd pass this onto you also. Hope all well with your family, I'm headed to Astoria tomorrow to spend time with my family in Astoria, my Uncle Al Rissman who is 91 years old who was my Aunt Iris (Hiatt)'s Rissman's husband, she died of Alzheimer's in early 2000. I see in The Genea Log that you are researching the above families. To me that means you are down line from Wm. F. Hiatt or Gersham P. Hiatt. Sense you mention Bunce I take it your line is G.P. Hiatt.
My cousin Don & Betty Nees and I are writing a book on the HIatts and Orwigs that came to OR and settled first in The Burn above Mist and then part of them moved to Clatskanie.
We have an older cousin, Faith Reynolds in Vernonia who is 96 and did much research for many years. Her grandpa was Wm. Franklin Hiatt and wife Malinda Ann.
In case you wonder who I am, I am the gal that has everyone sign in at the GSWCO meetings.

Dear Mr. Anderson,
I noticed your posts on the GenForum about the Hiatt family and I hope that you can help clear up a mystery.
My grandmother was Minnie Caroline (Hiatt) Armentrout (1902-1988). As far as I know, her Hiatt line is as follows:
James Malhuer Hiatt (1868-1935) & Minnie Caroline Anderson (1872-1925)
[James was adopted by his grandfather and took the Hiatt name]
William U'Ren (c. 1838-aft.1880) & Eliza Jane Hiatt (1838-1879)
Caleb Hiatt (1813-1886) & Rebecca Brown (1812-1887)
John Hiatt (1780-1824) & Margaret Nichols (1782-1855)
Isaac Hiett (1751-1824) & Margaret Thomas (1750-1825)
William Hiett (c. 1700-1766) & Alice Hiett (1728-1777)
John Hiett (c. 1674 - 1726) & Mary Smith (c. 1677-c. 1745)
While I have seen a variety of suggestions for John's parents from German or Dutch immigrants to Welsh ancestors, I saw on a GenForum thread that you had discovered proof that his parents were definitely English. Is it now known what his parents names where and possibly ancestors further back?
Any information or clarification you might have about my Hiatt ancestors would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Kelly (Armentrout) Haines
