Larry Anderson - Families and Individuals

Notes

Polly or Sarah SMITH

Birth year is listed in my source as 1747;  that is clearly not possible, because it means she had many children after age 50..  I have changed it to 1767, but that means she was married at age 11.  What to do?.

Polly, her mother Sarah, and a playmate, Frances Slocum, were captured by Indians.  Polly and Sarah were released, apparently in a short time, but Frances lived with the Indians for many years.

Julius CATLIN

Drowned.

John TYLER

Either John was born in Attlesboro, ME, or he and Mary were wed there.

John Wadsworth TYLER

A professor who never married.

F Amelia CLARKE

Was an invalid and never married.

Hooker SMITH

A doctor, of White Plains, NY.

Charles CATLIN

Drowned.

James CATLIN

Of Philadelphia, PA.

George CATLIN

Very famous as a painter of Indians.  To achieve realism in his paintings, he lived with Indians (voluntarily) for many years.

His works have worldwide fame, not so much because of their artistic elegance, but because they are the only known source of much information about Indian ways and ceremonies.

Elizabeth Wing CATLIN

Never married.

Eliza CATLIN

Children probably born in Wilkes-Barre, PA or in NY.

James CATLIN

Carried mail in NY.  Source says he owned a newspaper in 1823 (at age 23?).
