Larry,
I am B. A. Hyatt who lives in Lubbock, Texas.  My Father was Boon Alexander Hyatt born in Denton, TX 21 Dec 1888.  His father was Jesse Alexander Hyatt also born in Denton.  The Father of Jesse was Stephen S. Hyatt who is buried in Denton.  I have a rather complete record of the family from the birth of Jesse to present.  Jesse and wife Nicie Ella Moon Hyatt are buried in Crosbyton about thirty five miles east of Lubbock and Ella's mother Zimilie Ann Williams Moon was buried in Lubbock in 1919.  I have a fairly complete record of the descendants of Jesse and Ella right down to my own great grand children but have run into some mystery in Stephen S. Hyatt's life and thought you might be able to shed some light.  I found a record of Stephen S. Hiatt age 23 (note spelling) who married Mary Ann McIntyre age 14 or 16 (not clear) in Washington, Iowa 29 August 1843.

The 1850 census shows Stephen S. with wife Mirah living in Washington, Iowa next door to Elihu Hiatt.  Mirah could well be a short for Mary Ann, but the 1860 census in Denton, Texas shows S. S. Hyatt (note spelling) with Jane (not designated as wife) age 25, daughter Loretta age 9, daughter Clarissa age 2, and son Jesse 8/12 (my grandfather).  We knew that S. S. died in 1865 and that Loretta married Boone Daugherty and they raised Clarissa and Jesse.  They were well known in Denton and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there.  What we didn't know until two years ago was that S.S. married Jennie Walling from England in 1862 and they had two sons, one of which lived to produce off springs.  The other son is buried near S. S. in Denton.  We had always considered that Jane McIntyre was my great grandmother  but if she was 25 in 1860 she could not have been the Mary Ann who married S. S. in 1843 and thus the mother of Loretta, Clarissa and Jesse.

I have been totally unable to find a record of the death, or divorce of Mary Ann, Mirah, or Jane.  I have, however found that Elihu moved to Utah and had descendants there, as did some of his brothers.  They continued to spell the name with the letter "i" but Stephen and all of us spell it with "y".  This all came to light when I organized a reunion for the descendants of S. S. Hyatt who was the sheriff of Denton County during the Civil War.  That is when we learned of the marriage to Jennie Walling and one of the descendants of John W. Hyatt, the son of S. S. and Jennie was at the reunion.  That is when I met Sam Eaton descended from Boone and Loretta Daugherty also.  I have stayed in touch with him and also Judy Hyatt Bacon of Boise Idaho.  Both she and Sam have done extensive research and between the three of us we pretty well know the family history from S. S. Hyatt until now.  I would be glad to share stories and pedigrees if you have interest.

Two other things I would like to know if you have documented evidence regarding the McIntyre connection, and if there is any credence to the descendant of Pocahontas and Captain John Smith being in the line.  The ages and recorded history would seem to indicate that this is fantasy but there is the possibility.  If you can shed any light on these two things I would be delighted.  If I were younger and financial able I would love to travel to England with you for further research but at 83 and with a wife in poor health that is not possible.  I have seen some of your work and am greatly impressed.

With high regards,
B A Hyatt
