He volunteered 18 Mar 1862 when he was 32 with his brothers, Albert and Daniel (Listed as Parsons). He was taken prisoner 27 May 1862 at Hanover Court House and was POW at Fort Monroe, VA and also at Fort Columburs, NY Harbour. He was sent to James River, VA at Aiken's Landing and arrived there 12 Jul 1862. He was exchanged there 5 Aug 1862. After he returned to duty, he suffered a wound in the thigh in the battle of Second Manassas. He left the company and joined the Confederate Navy 3 Apr 1864
