Nelle Talbert Service Tuesday
Nellie Hiatt Shelby Talbert, 94, Franklin, a former businesswoman, died
Thursday at Franklin Healthcare Center where she had been a resident for eight months. She had been in failing health for several years.
Born 1 Jun 1886, in Montgomery County, south of Darlington, she was the
daughter of William and Flora (Grimes) Hiatt.
She married Grover Shelby Nov 22, 1922, and he preceded her in death in
1931. She then married Dr. Mellis G. Talbert, a former Franklin veterinarian
in 1936 and he preceded her in death Aug 8, 1953.
Mrs. Talbert had been active in the real estate and insurance business in Lebanon before moving to Franklin. She owned and managed apartments in
Franklin and Frankfort.
She was a charter member of the Business and Professional Women in Lebanon and was also a member of the Franklin BPW. She also belonged to Lebanon Chapter 23 OES, Franklin First United Presbyterian Church, American Legion Auxiliary and World War I Auxiliary, Daughters of the Union, Daughters of the American Revolution and Indiana Historical Society.
A funeral service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vandivier Tudor Funeral Home, Franklin by the Rev. James Shaffer. Graveside rites will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Darlington at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include two stepsons, Howard Talbert and Robert Talbert of
Morristown, a stepdaughter, Isabelle Smith of Shelbyville; sisters Dorothy
Whitson of Mattoon, Ill and Florence Webster of Indianapolis. Several nieces
and nephews also survive.
