Bringhursts were Quakers that settled in the Philadelphia area about 1700. They decend from John Bringhurst (b. 1n1655) a member of the Society of Friends and who became known as the Printer and Publisher of Friends' books. He was arrested for printing "George Fox's Primer". In 1684 he was sentenced to pay a fine of one shilling and stand two hours in the pillory. He moved to Amsterdam where he did in 1699. After his death, they family moved back to America.
Samuel and hisfamily joined the Church in 1845 and they moved to Nauvoo, IL and to Utah in 1847.
