Member of the faculty (Economics) of University of Michigan at time of his death. Studied at Alliance Francaise, Paris, France, 1923. Died at Ann Arbor, Michigan, November 14, 1930. Buried there in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Absalom Reid/Reed born 19 April 1727, married 29 Januuary 1750/51? to Sarah Simson (Simpson?) daughter of William and Elizabeth. Children:

Joab Reid/Reed served as a private in Revolutionary War under Captain William Mason and Colonel Philip in his regiment in Virginia from 1 September 1780 to 24 January 1781. Joab was granted a pension, No. 799, a rate of $56.87 per year beginning 4 March 1831, per certificate sent on 18 October 1832 to an Mr. N. Beasby, Decatur, Ohio. Joab statement dated 26 July 1832 made before the Brown Couty Court, stated he joined at Alexandria, Va. His militia met the main army at Hillsborough, N. C., then to Salisbury, N. C. where General Green commanded the Southern Army. He become sick and was sent to the hospital, returned via wagon to the Army at Salisbury. He was discharged 24 January 1781 at Salisbury , reached home 31 March 1781, delayed account of his sickness. He moved to Kentucky, then to Brown County, Ohio. On 10 April 1855, at age 92, Joab filed for bounty land. He was then a residence of Adams County, Ohio. U.S. Archives he was granted 160 acre on 14 May 1856, approved 27 November 1855 by Richard Ramsay.

Joab Reid (Ried), Private under Captain William Mason and Colonel Phillips in Va. Enlisted Sept. 1, 1780 and served to his discharge on Jan. 24, 1781. Born on Fairfox County., Va., July 26, 1762. Married Sarah West, Fairfax County Va. Children: Travis, died 1853. Soldier buried in the old part of the Decatur(Ohio)Cemetery, marker inscription"Jacob Ried, Rev soldier, 1762-1853." Gov. marker placed on his grave on May 30, 1922. Located in Sec. J, lot 1 grave 8. Lived in Adams and Brown Couties. Was a pensioner - V. L. M. SF 4057 Ref.: Mrs. Anne Hughes, Decatur, Ohio.
