Caleb Jackson entered the Civil War with CSA, Co. E., 53rd NC Regiment on 16 Oct 1863. He was taken prisoner on 29 Dec 1863 and placed in the old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC. He developed pneumonia there. On 19 Mar 1864, after taking the Oath of Allegiance, he was released.
