Dana Vancil Alexander was born 26 September 1896 in Stockdale, Pike County, Ohio son of William Alexander and Libby Beauchamp Anderson. On 29 May 1918 he married Charlotte Clementine Bradford in Catlettsburg, Kentucky at the Methodist Epicopal, South church by the minister, A.P. Keyser, witnessed by Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Holcomb. Dana ignored that name, always going by the name of Vancil. He was baptised by Pastor George Philip Horst of the second Presbyterian Church on 10 September 1916. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1916. Charlotte was born 3 September 1897 Rosemont, Scioto County, Ohio, daughter of Henry William Bradford and Myrtle Virginia Johnson.

married: Barbara Gum. Children: Patricia and MarkVancil was president of his 1916 Phs graduation class, and went on to be a clothing salesman for a short while. Later he entered the Building Construction Business in Portsmouth, and for a few years in Springfield, Ohio. In the early 1940s he was employed as a steel worker, serving as a Quality Control Inspector for Detroit Steel Corporation in Porsmouth until his retirement in 1965. He died 12 January 1983 at the Hillorest Nursing Home, Fredericktown, Richland County, Ohio, and is buried at the Memorial Burial Park, Wheelersburg, Scioto County, Ohio, Section #2, Lot #123.
