J.F. M. Hiatt born in Kentucky, Jan 21, 1836. When very young, his
parents emigrated to Missouri where the subject of this sketch recieved his
education, and was reared as a farmer. In 1857 he left home and friends, and
immigrated to California, crossing the plains with ox-teams, arriving in Yolo
County the following September, where he remained about six years, when he
returned east via Panama. In the spring of 1864, he returned by the same route and located in Sutter County and followed farming until 1871, when he came to this county and engaged in stock business. In 1877 he went to Bartlett Springs in quest of health for his wife. After remaining there twenty-two months, he returned to this county, and is now living about two and one half miles from Hopland.

Kirksville; lives about 4 miles north of Kirksville; owns 80 acres; born in Kentucky in 1838; when about 3 his parents moved to Montgomery County, Missouri. he lived there until the spring of 1864 when he came across the plains to California; taking four months and going to Yolo County; lived there one year and then moved to Sutter County. He went East in 1869 on a visit; while there, he married at Middletown, Montgomery County, Missouri, to Miss Elizabeth Cox, native of that state; they have two living children - two sons.

He has held the office of constable for about four years; was married in 1858 to Elizabeth M. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Tharp celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Sutter City on August 5th.
One of the most thoroughly enjoyable events that has occured in this section for years was the celebration today of the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Tharp of this City. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Tharp was open all day and this evening to the reception of friends. There was plenty to eat and the couple were the recipients of a number of beatiful presents and innumerable tokens of esteem and well wishers. On 5 August 1858 in Montgomery County, Mr. Robert Tharp and Miss Elizabeth M. Hiatt were married. The bride, who was a Kentuckian, was then sixteen years of age, and was born September 17, 1842. With her parents, she moved to Missouri when a small girl. After the marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Tharp setteld in Missouri until March 13, 1870, when they came to California and settled in Sutter County, where they have since resided. She is the sister of G. W. Hiatt of Woodland; Mrs. B. R. Beach of Meridan; B. S. J. Hiatt of Kirksville; Jowhn W., Monroe, and William Hiatt, of Mendocino.
R. W. Tharp was born in Montgomery County, Mo., January 6th, 1838. He has followed ranching all his life and since coming to Sutter County has made a success of that business. He always takes an active part in politics and is one of Sutter's leading citizens.

Lee Hiatt Services Tuesday Afternoon.
Funeral services for T.L. Lee Hiatt will be held at the Eversole Mortuary at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Leonard Brown, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment in the Cloverdale Cemetery will take place at 4 o'clock.
Mr. Hiatt passes away at his home, 788 North Oak Street, Ukiah, Sunday,
August 22. Born at Yorkville, February 2, 1867 he lived his entire life in
Mendocino County and had been a resident of this community for 17 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mae Hiatt; two children, Raymond Hiatt of Ukiah and Harold Hiatt of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Ruth Ingram of Hermitage and Mrs. Belva Lawson of St. Helena are his sisters.
Honorary pallbearers will be Judge W. D. L. Held, Evan Ledford, Judge
Lilburn Gibson, Dave Henderson, Gus Wallach, Joe Figone, Judge Hale McCowen and B.G. Broaddus.
Mr. Hiatt, who was a member of one of the county's pioneer famileis passed away at his home after a long illness. He was a son of Monroe Hiatt, who was born in Kentucky was educated and taught school in Missouri and came over the plains to El Dorado county, California, in 1854. After mining three years he moved to Yolo county and engaged in merchandising and money lending. The family moved to Yorkville in 1867, where all but two of the children were born.
Lee Hiatt attended public school at Yorkville, Lytton Springs Military
School, and organized and commanded the military regiment at Laurel Hall
College, now San Jose State College, and was a member of the first graduation
of that college.
