William Peaslie Hiatt, who married first, another of the Bailey sisters,
must have come to Renfro Valley before 1815, as the Bailey family was living
here when they were married on that date. Instead of building a home, as did
his brother, Bennett, he purchased in later years the immense log house
formerly occupied by Col. William Fish. William Peaslie's second wife, Mary
French, being much younger, outlived him for many yeears and the old house
became known as "The Aunt Polly Hiatt Place." It is still preserved in
excellent condition. I have had it moved to the corner of my yard and it is
restored to its original state.

The date of birth are totally speculative, based on approx. age of 20 when
married. It is only for the purpose of keeping a perspective time so that it
is easier to try and trace the time period we may look for.

Mr. Conrad Feltner, but have been unable to locate him for further information.

A Genealogy of Rockcastle County, Ky. Families Edited by J. Allen Singleton
Pgs. 80, 81, 82
Although the Hiatts do not trace their Rockcastle County origin back as far as many others, they share with the Houcks, the Hayses and the Adamses the reputation of having one of hte most completely documented ancestral charts of any family in Rockcastle County. If it later develops that they are descended from Col. Jost Hite they will acquire the antiquity for their line which is now missing. (They are not of the line of Jost HITE!)
The difference in the spelling of the name has here-to-fore discouraged
extensive ancestral research, but it is to be noted that such change of
spelling had an even earlier origin. The important figure in early American
history, Jost Hite, had already changed from Heydt to Hite soon after coming to America from his native Holland.
The Rockcastle Hiatts head their family tree with Abner Hiatt and his wife, the former Lucy Peaslie, who came presumably from Virginia and settled first in Singleton Valley near Great Saltpetre Cave. They are said to have come in with a group of several families travelling together for protection, most of whom were brought in as experienced powdermakers to operate the salpetre works in the cave. While living in Singleton Valley, Abner was bitten by a rattlesnake, with near fatal results.
The names of neither Abner nor his two sons, William Peaslie or Bennett
appear in the Rockcastle census report before 1820, but is is certain that they were here well before that date, since a company organized for service in the War of 1812, under date of November 10, 1814 showed William Peaslie Hiatt, William Bethurum and Bennett Hiatt furnishing substitues to take their place on the roster of the company in which Loftus Cook, of this county, was first lieutenant.....
Members of the Hiatt family have been among the more substantial citizens
of Rockcastle County. Albert Hiatt, son of Allen and Eliza Fish Hiatt, was for many years before his retirement president of Citizen's Bank of Broadhead. Peter James Hiatt was one of our outstanding minister and married more couples than any other county minister, with the exception of Rev. Morton Owens. Charlotte Sommers Hiatt, who married Abraham Chestnut, was mother of three prominent ministers: Rev. James Monroe, Rev. Benjamin and Rev. Abraham Chestnut. Willie Hiatt, Sr., was long a successful merchant and his son, Willie, Jr., is following in his footsteps.
Four generation of the family have been born in and raised around the old
Bennett Hiatt home in Renfro Valley. The only time they left it was in 1878
when Jones and Tabitha Hiatt set out with their family in a covered wagon in
search of a new location. In Arkansas Jones died of swamp fever and his wife
and children came back to the old home place. A few years later Jones'
brother, William, married his widow and helped to raise his brother's family,
one of whom was Jones (Pappy) Hiatt, the last of the name to occupy the old log house, which is still standing.
Peasley, Peaslee and Peaslie. No further information on her lineage.

John Hiatt, Ann Noel/ Lucy Gooch
It's hard to pin down John Hiatt to a specific locality. Early Virgina
Grants show that he had five hundred acres in Fayette County on Tates Creek of the Kentucky River, Book 8, p 229, 31 July 1783.
The first census of Kentucky reconstructed from tax lists shows John Hiatt was in Madison County, Kentucky.
Also in 1789 John Hiatt was a witness ona deed from William M. Bledsoe to
William Sprat in Lincoln County, Kentucky.
On 1 February 1799, John Hiatt bought one hundred sixty acres on Logan's
Creek in Lincoln County. Evidently he lived there until his death.
John Hiatt served on the first Grand Jury in Garrard County.
Woodford County deeds, Book A, page 132, indicate his wife was Ann Noel.
There is recorded a decree of Esses County, Virginia Court of Chancery about
slaves bequeathed by the will of Joseph Noel. They had seven children, it is
believed.
John married Lucy Gooch 14 November 1820 in Lincoln County, Knetucky. In her will she left her estate to the children of James Edwards and the children of Steven Terry, so evidently she and John did not have any children.
A deed by the heirs selling the Logan's creek land to William Hiatt
provides most of what we know about his descendants. This is in Deed Book L. p 235, Lincoln County, Kentucky and was written in June of 1821. This indicates Lucy and John were married less than a year.
26 June 1787, Lincoln Co., Ky., Tax List "B", shows John Hiatt as having: 2 white males 16-21; 1 black over 16; 4 blacks under 16; 6 horses, mares, colts and mules; and 20 head of cattle.Records of Lincoln Co., Ky., Stanford Court House
