Sylvester and Sarah Davis left Chautauqua County, New York near Lake Erie, and a covered wagon with their four sons Bill, Walt, Charlie and George and two daughters, Hannah and Clestia. (George W., Sylvester's son, and Mary Melissa Roberts were married in New York before he entered the Civil War. George never came home until the war was over. He and his family with his parents, Sylvester and Sarah Davis, brothers and sisters started West in a covered wagon. It was on this trip West this is two older children, Austin and Florence were born, probably an hour noise before reaching Iowa. Another daughter was born in 1866 to George and Melissa and named Francis.) The family settled two and one half miles northeast of Moravia, Iowa on the farm now known as the Don Self place. Sylvester and Sarah lived with their son George in this house until their deaths. Sylvester and Sarah passed away and buried in the North East corner of the cemetery on the east line of graves and what is called the old Moravia Cemetery, two or three blocks south of the Southeast corner of the square in Moravia, Iowa.
5. William Perry Davis (Uncle Will) married Jessie Potts. They had one premature child who lived only a few hours. They later adopted a son Ralph, about four years old and her daughter, Lois, a week old. They, Uncle Will and children made their home on a farm 3 miles west of Moravia until retirement. Lois who married Harold Mason and has one son Richard still lives on the home place. Rob is married and has one daughter.
Will and Jessie are buried in Hillcrest Cemetery. Moravia, Iowa.
Premature son lived only a few hours.
Adopted Ralph at 4 years old. Married with one daughter as of 1971.
8. Charlie Davis married Bessie Funkhouser of Iconeum. They homesteaded in Wyoming near Burns. They lived in a sod house and hauled all of the water 10 miles for many years. To this union three sons, Louis, Darrell, and Charles and three daughters, Pearl, Wilma and door were born.
Both Charlie and Bessie are buried in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Bessie Davis' obituary reads she was laid to rest by her husband Charles and Lake view Cemetery. (But we cannot tell whether it is in Carrington or Cheyenne, Wyoming.) The following are addresses given to Garnet by Dorothy Vance, October 1970. The addresses of Dora and Louis and unknown but Pearl would know.
