Milton Otto Pressnall was born May 18, 1870, near Linville, Iowa, the eldest son of Jesse R and Mary W
Pressnall. Being a sickly baby his parents took him, by oxen and covered wagon, to southern Kansas for two
years, then returned to the same place in Iowa. They lived in Iowa and Kansas until 1890, then moved to Allen,
Nebraska. There in Springbank Friends Meeting he met and married Evalina Tuning on March 6, 1894.
To this union were born five children: Lula May, who passed away at the age of three; Wilbur Pressnall,
Portland, Oregon; Marie Hirst, Greenleaf, Idaho; Veva Gehrke, Grande Coulee, Washington; Orpha Cammack,
Salem, Oregon. With these he is survived by one brother, Benjamin Pressnall, Dreary, Idaho, 15 grandchildren,
and 37 great grandchildren.
The family lived in Entiat, Washington from 1904 to 1917, and helped organize and build the Friends
meeting in that place. In 1919 they moved to Greenleaf and were members of that meeting. He felt it a
privilege to have helped in the construction of several new churches in Washington.
His wife preceded him in death August, 1940. For the past five years he had lived with his daughter, Marie,
at whose home he passed to his heavenly home May 31, 1960, at the age of 90 years and 15 days. (13 days)
He was converted in early manhood and maintained an active interest in spiritual things throughout his life.
As those who remain we can surely say, "We sorrow not as those who have no hope." For each one there is a
mansion prepared, if we stay true to our Lord and Saviour.
This poem was found among his treasured clippings.
A SMILE
I would rather be remembered as a man who use to smile
Than to have a million dollars gold all heaped up in a pile.
I would rather be remembered for kindly words and thoughts,
Than for all the pomp and splendor that money ever bought.
A Smile is like a potent drug to liquidate life's ills.
It gives warmth and sunshine and drives away the chills.
So as you go along life's road pass out a smile or two,
They will not do a bit of harm and may return to you.
Cast your bread upon the waters, some day perhaps the tide
Will bring it back again to you with butter on both sides,
But if it never dies return, this much you'll always know
That you helped to scatter sunshine as along life's way you go.

1930 Census: Greenleaf, Canyon Co., Idaho - She and son Verle were living with Phoebe (Roberts) Tuning.Obituary for Lillie (Tuning) Emry the daughter of William and Phoebe (Roberts) Tuning, was born near Allen, Dixon Co. Nebraska, on February 11, 1879, and passed away at Caldwell, Idaho June 2, 1953 after an illness of five years, at the age of seventy four years, three months and twenty one days.
She grew to young womanhood in the Springbank community, where she started her active Christian life as a birthright member of the Friends Church at Allen, Nebraska. The Christian ideals of this fine community, and of a Godly home, left a lasting impression on her life as she grew to womanhood. She developed a sense of Christian responsibility at an early age, which was expressed in a lifetime devoted to active Christian Service. On October 5th, 1898, she was united in marriage to Cyrus Emry at Ponca, Nebraska. To this union was born three children. With this marriage she also assumed the responsibility of mothering three small stepsons. Her entire life was devoted to the rearing of these six children, and to active support of her husband in all of his pastorates.
Cyrus and Lillie served a pastors at Gross, Harmony Meeting, Hiawatha and Norden, Nebraska. Winters were often spent in holding evangelistic services in school houses and inactive churches. This pastoral work was brought to a conclusion by the untimely death of her husband at Olive, Montana in 1917, where the family had gone to establish a church in the great untouched area of that state.
After the death of her husband, the family moved back to Norden, where she actively supported the work of a community church in that neighborhood for a number of years.
In 1926 she came to Greenleaf, Idaho to make her home. Her life in this community was a living testimony of God's power to save. Through the years she carried a burden for the work of this church and the work of Friends everywhere. No task was too difficult, nor insignificant for her to perform for the Christ she loved more than her own life. Even while physically incapacitated, she continued in her rational moments to witness and give her testimony to all who would listen.
In addition to a host of admiring friends, a large group of devoted nieces and nephews, she leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Orville of Firth, Nebraska; Verle of Portland, Oregon; one daughter, Mrs Nora Piersall of Eugene, Oregon; two stepsons, Willard Emry of Buckley, Washington; Luther Emry of Greenleaf, Idaho; two sisters Mrs. Nellie Ellis of Greenleaf, Idaho; Mrs. Mary Thompson of Allen, Nebraska; Three brothers, Orville and John Tuning both of Greenleaf, and David of Allen, Nebraska

BIOGRAPHY: David Adcock Emry was born of a pioneering family who settled in Iowa when it was still a territory (about
1839). He was a quaker and member of the Walnut Creek Friends Meeting and continued his active membership
throughout his life. Nearly forty of his productive years, after marriage, were spent farming near Pleasant Plain, Iowa, first
on the farm of his parents and later on what is known as the Shockley farm. In 1893 they moved, with three of the children, to Knox county, Nebraska, settling in the Kemma community near Creighton. Five years later they moved to a farm in Dixon county, in the Springbank community. In 1899 they again moved, this time to Central City, Merrick Co., Nebraska, spending their later years on a small acerage near Nebraska Central College. He is buried in the Southwestern part ofthe Central City cemetery, one mile north of the city.OBITUARY: 2 Jan 1917, Central City, Nebraska Newspaper.
DAVID EMRY As a terminus to many months of suffering, David Emry, an elderly and prominent resident of this community, passed away at his home on the college section Friday evening, December 29th, at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 5 days. Due to injuries received during his boyhood, he had been a sufferer most of his life, and a few months past his ailments became more acute, resulting in his death. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Friends church, Rev. J. D. Mills being in charge. Many were present to pay their last respects to the memory of a staunch friend and thoughtful neighbor. Eight seats in the center of the church were filled with relatives. Internment was in the cemetery north of the city.
David Emry, son of Travis and Elizabeth Emry, was born in Randolph county, Indiana, June 24th 1832. When seven years
of age, he moved with his parents to Salem, Iowa, and later to Pleasant Plain, that state. There he grew to manhood, and on the 17th day of February, 1855, was united in marriage to Amanda Talbert forming a union that lasted almost sixty two years. To them were born thirteen children: Richard and William, who died in early life: John, a minister of the Friends church, who died in 1905; James of Independence Kas.; Francis H. of Waterbury, this state; Cyrus of Norden, this state; Alfred L. of this city; Mrs. Abram Jones of Aroya, Colo.; Mrs Cyrus Holloway of Salem, Ohio; Mrs Chandler Paxson of Tamarack, Minn.; Mrs Philip Mesner, Mrs W.C. Truesdell and Harriet F. Emry of this city. He is also survived by eighty grandchildren and thirty five great grandchildren.
In 1893 he came with his wife and three younger children to Nebraska, living first in Knox county and then in Springbank. The last seventeen years of his life were spent as a resident of this community. Mr. Emry was a birthright member of the Friends church, but not until almost middle life did his active work in the church begin. After his conversioin he became a pioneer in the progressive movement of the church, always faithful in attendance at the services when possible. He took an active interest in the business of the church and held responsible positions during the greater part of his more than forty years of active service, being elder at the time of his death.

It is said that Enos left Iowa in 1869, one year before his parents, and came to Nebraska where he worked for Peter Morgan. Enos was 18 years old at the time, and Peter's daughter Hannah was only 9, and so the story goes that after working for Peter Morgan for nine years, Enos married Hannah. Enos was a farmer and served in the Nebraska State Legislature 1892-1911.
