1840 census is speculativeChoctaw and Chickasee Indians were moved from Mississippi to their new territory. In 1824, James Clark of Red River had a commission under General Jackson to supply food for the Indians during this movement. (Pat B. Clark, Hist of Clarksville and Old Red River County, p. 4 et. al. "The Old Choctaw Trail" runs near or in Clarksville.
The "Trail of Tears" took the Choctaw to Oklahoma.
