Earl Brandon HUNTING

Earl B. Hunting

Earl Brandon Hunting, 80, passed away May 12, 2000 in Vernal. He was born August 8, 1920 to Earl and Phillis Williams Hunting in Naples. He graduated from Uintah in 1939 and worked in the timber with his father and brothers until he joined the Army in 1942. he served in the Army during WWII and spent 18 months in active duty in the Pacific being discharged in 1946.
He graduated from the LDS Institute of Religion with Honors and the University of Utah and earned two master degrees. He served an LDS mission to the New England states. He worked in the science research lab at UCLA in California for several years before returning to Vernal. Brandon married Virginia Butler on Dec. 9, 1955 in Salt Lake City
They were the parents of five children. They later divorced and he married Shirley Locke Perkins on July 27, 1979 in Provo. She preceded him in death in 1982.
He is survived by his daughters, Sarah Ann Iverson, Salt Lake City; Debra Jean (Jess) White, Riverdale; Jennifer Lee (Bobby) Steele, Provo; Amy (Brian) Davis; son, Fred Hunting, Los Angeles, Calif.; nine grandchildren; brothers, Max Hunting, Lehi; Ray Hunting, Oran Hunting, Dell Hunting, and Allen Hunting, and a sister, Minnie Schultes, all of Vernal.
Graveside services were held Monday, May 15, at 2 p.m. in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery with military honors given by the American Legion.
Bishop Rulon Ewell conducted the services and Fred Hunting offered the family prayer at the mortuary.
Services were under the direction of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.

Mark Jay SCHULTHES

Mark J. Schulthes

Mark Jay Schulthes, 71, passed away June 3, 2000 in Vernal. He was born Feb. 18, 1929 in Salt Lake City, a son of Arnold Rulon and Mary Awilda Hall Schulthes. He married Millie Hunting in 1953 and they later divorced.
He was a truck driver, pipe liner and heavy equipment operator. He was also a pumper for BHP.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion and Nine Mile Coalition.
Jay was a very proud man who always put his family first. He enjoyed competing with his grandchildren and their friends in fishing contests. Camping with family and friends were cherished moments, as were his stories of how his life was when he was a boy growing up in Nine Mile Canyon.
Jay was a friend to everyone and everything. He had a special way with animals. Jay enjoyed making things with wood and metals. He took great satisfaction in farming, gardening, reading, visiting with his friends and family. There wasn't anything he didn't like to do.
He is survived by daughters, Erlene Schulthes, Jayne (Brady) Richens; grandchildren, Brandy Marie Richens, Nicholas Jay Richens, Joseph Earl Richens, and a special friend, Frances Bowen, Orem; sister, Joyce (Earl) Fix, Rangely, Colo.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.

Funeral services for Mark Jay Schulthes, born Feb. 18, 1929 and died June 3, 2000, were held Wednesday, June 7, 2000 in the Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary with Lance Dean conducting.
Mark married Minnie Hunting in 1953 and they later divorced. He is survived by his daughters, Erlene and Jayne.
Rakell McKee played prelude and postlude music.
Myrna Mead gave the invocation.
Kristine Christianson sang "The Dance," and "There Was A Valley."
Shirley Slaugh read a poem.
Speakers were Niel Batty and Frances Bowen.
Ben Mead offered closing remarks and gave the benediction.
Pallbearers were Brandy Marie Richens, Joseph Earl Richens, Nicholas Jay Richens, Cody Lee George and Danny K. George.
Full military honors were given by the American Legion with taps played by Shirley Slaugh.
Services were under the direction of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
