ID: I944 Name: Richard Parker Given Name: Richard Surname: Parker Sex: M Birth: 29 Nov 1630 in Warlegan, Liskeard, Cornwall, England Death: 1677 in Parker Creek, Nansemond, VA _UID: 769EDFE9BDEF4EC3B47543B1F929D95203EE Change Date: 16 Dec 2006 at 17:40 Note:  "Richard Parker I (1618-1617) was granted 314 acres of land in Surry County, Virginia as headrights on December 20, 1670.On May 1, 1668, he married Mrs. Judith Hunt. He died in Surry County, leaving one child, Richard II.  Richard was the 9th child and the 4th son of this marriage that produced 21 children!  Richard Parker (1630-1677 the ‘emigrant’) emigrated to the Colony of Virginia, arriving in Nasemond County in 1647 it is said due to a price being put on his head by Oliver Cromwell, for his support of Charles I and the royalist army.    I am grateful to Waunita Powell who has carried out detailed research into yhe confusion caused by the coincidence of three Richard Parkers residing in VA. during the mid 17thC. She has determined that Richard Parker (of Browsholme) married Mary Perkins a widow and former Londoner:    "Richard, ye 9th, Dr. of Physick went to Virginy, married a Londoner and had issue six children, liveth upon Saint James River, in ye Uplands of Virginy, hath been High Sheriff of sd County."  Therefore, my Richard is probably not James and Katherine's son.  My Richard ended up in Surry Co. and so is probably the "Richard of Surry" in the "Three Richard Parkers of Virginia" debate. However, the name I have is Judith Burton, not Judith Hunt as his wife, and I have him dying in Nansemond which I don't know is a convolution of the Richards or not.  Surry Co Deed Ck 2 pg 102: Ann Kersey bound son to learn Brassier trade, as Apprentice to Richard Parker.   Wills and Adm. of Isle of Wight - Chapman. William Hunt, dying intestate, administration requested of Richard Parker who married the relict by 1 May 1668; Rec. 20 Aug 1668. Security: Francis Baker and Thomas Edwards.  20 Dec 1670 [1673] Richard Parker 314 acs Surry Co upon main Blackwater Swp., adj Jno Baker. headrights: Jasper Grantum, David Phillips, Evan Davis, Wm. Marriot, Richard Parker twice, Jno Warren, - C& P - Nugent  6 Jan 1673 a cert. from the Sec of the Colony for 50 acres of land, for the transportation of John Warren by Richard Parker [Surry Co orders 1671-90 p 40]
