Obituary: Norman John Chivers
     Norman John Chivers our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 13, 2001 at the age of 84.
     He was born February 2, 1917 to Lewis William Chivers and Elizabeth Ivy Slaw in Naples, UT He attended schools there and spent most of his childhood with his grandfather Slaw experiencing and loving the outdoors.
     During the 1930's he was part of the Civilian Conservation Corps which led to his lifetime career in road construction and sales manager for Kimball Equipment in Salt Lake City, Utah.
     He married Gertha Lillian Bird on June 20, 1937 in Salina, Utah, who passed away on October 7, 1976. He then married Margaret Symes on April 24, 1988. He was a member of the LDS Church.
     Norman was a man who loved all people and valued friendships. He often discussed past memories he had of people, inevitably including the words "my friends," in the
     conversations.
     Norman enjoyed sharing his childhood experiences with his family and could entertain his children and grandchildren for hours with his stories of adventure and courage. He had a special ability to soothe frightened children, and comfort and give advice to those needing support and encouragement during difficult times. He was also a person who had great empathy for the less fortunate.
     Norman radiated happiness and always reflected a positive outlook on life that uplifted those around him. He was a visionary who always strove to make the world a better place.
     He is preceded in death by one sister, two brothers and two grandsons.
     Survived by wife: Margaret Chivers; children: Raymond (Ramona) Chivers, Boise; JoAnn (De Von) Mecham, Salt Lake City; Jerry (Calleen) Chivers, Salt Lake City; Danny (Terri) Chivers, Salt Lake City; Scott (Joan) Symes, Salt Lake City; Cynthia (Lance) Blackwood, Riverton; Carol (Matt) Storey, Salt Lake City; Christ (Lee) Symes, Farmington; 26 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren, sisters: Mary Shepherd, Salt Lake City; Verda Edge, Salt Lake City; Betty (Cecil) Blackwood, Salt Lake City; Jennis (Lawrence) Yack, Roosevelt; and Jean (John) Dorman, Salt Lake City.
     "In spring when woods are getting green,
     I'll try and tell you what I mean.
     In summer when the days are long,
     Perhaps you'll understand my song."
     Until we meet again—my friend.
     Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2001, 10 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 South, where friends may call Sunday evening 6-8 and one hour prior to the services. Interment: Mountain View Memorial Estates.

Lawrence P. Yack
Lawrence P. Yack Mayor, Bee Keeper Roosevelt; Lawrence Peter Yack, age 81, of Roosevelt, passed away peacefully November 18, 2003 surrounded by his loved ones.He was born June 9, 1922 in Neola, Utah to George and Maryana Felix Yack. He married Jennis Chivers February 6, 1946, in Salt Lake City. Lawrence served Roosevelt as a councilman for four years and mayor from 1982-89. He worked with his brothers in Yack Honey and was President of the Utah Bee Federation for three years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy in the South Pacific. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 57 years, Jennis, sons and daughter, Jerry (Suzy) Yack, Sandy; Robert (Teresa) Yack, and Lori (Chris) Nebeker, all of Roosevelt; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Frank (Thora) Yack, Roosevelt and Don (Berniece) Yack, Neola. He was preceded in death by brothers, John, Joe, George, Bill, Edward and sisters Mary Chasel and Annie Yack. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the Roosevelt East LDS Stake Center, 500 E. 500 N. Friends and family may call at the Hullinger Mortuary, 457 E. 300 N., from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 10-10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment, Roosevelt Memorial Park. Elva Jean Darman

Elva Jean Darman 1932 ~ 2003 Elva Jean, know as Jeannie by those who loved her, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her family at home, on October 4, 2003. She was born November 12, 1932 in Vernal Utah, daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Chivers. She will always be loved and missed by John, her best friend and husband of 50 years. She leaves a legacy of kindness, humor, generous compassion, unconditional love, and a smiling countenance that will be treasured by friends and family. She was extremely proud and supportive of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her music, dancing, traveling, and reading. She had a wonderful life, many friends and enjoyable times that she would reminisce about in later years. Her sweet, friendly and caring personality will be missed by all her friends and family. We would like to send our love and thanks to all those who helped us and became a very special part of our family. She is survived by her children, Kathy Leonard, Kevin Darman, Kelly Slater and Aaron Darman, nine grand and three great-grand children. Her sisters, Mary Shepherd, Verda Edge, Mrs. Lawrence (Jennis) Yack, and Mrs. Cecil (Betty) Blackwood. Jean's family will honor your presence at their celebration of her life. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday Oct. 10, at Redwood Memorial Park (6500 South Redwood Road).
