John Lathrop, minister of the Church of England, early 17th century, was an ancestor of Lucy on the Mack line. He was from the town of Egerton and served as pastor of a thriving congregation. He later allied himself with the "Independents" and secretly met with them for 8 years. Later arrested by the Bishops of London and confined for years in the old Clink prison at Newgate. While there his wife died and his children abandoned as orphaned, left in wretched condition. This softened the Bishops heart and he released John Lathrop for the sake of the children. That is when he took his family to America. In New England he became noted as a leader in church affairs.
Dies from an overdose of Calomel prescribed by an inept doctor.
Don Carlos was the editor of the Times and Seasons, becomes sick while printing in a damp cellar. He had 3 daughters.

Samuel, the third son of Robert Smith, was born in 1666 and lived to the age of 82. He build his home on the Topsfield side of the estate and there established the domicile of the SMITH family. He was a carpenter by trade, although on the town record he is known as a "gentleman." This leads the genealogist to conjecture that Robert, Samuel's father, was the youngest son of a nobleman.
Samuel married Rebecca Curtis, daughter of John Curtis, who, like many other families of that period living in New England, boasted a coat of arms. Samuel's father in law was a corporal in the militia. Samuel and Rebecca were the parents of nine children, two sons and 7 daughters.
