Jean Baptiste BABIN

In 1755 (Le Grand Derangement), Jean Babin and his family were deported to England.  His wife, Marguerite Terriot, died at South Hampton, England, in August of 1756.  After the Treaty of Peace in 1763, Jean and his surviving children were in the group of Acadians (held prisoners in England) placed on the ship "La Dorothee" and sent to St Malo, France. This family was in St. Malo in 1785.

Many records were kept on the Acadians who were in France, and it is from these records that we have been able to bridge the gap between their expulsion in 1755 and the Acadian Immigration to Louisiana in 1785.
