Mary Lizzie GRISSOM

      "Mrs. Lizzie Witchell, aged 83years old, passed away at the Lewistown Convalescent Home on Fridayevening, Nov., 3, at 8:30 o'clock. She had been in failing health fora year. Lizzie Walker was born near Rushville, on January 20, 1864,and was a daughter of John and Jane Walker. She was united inmarriage to Walter Witchell on March 4, 1891, and to this union threechildren were born, and one child, Harold Witchell preceded her indeath. Mrs. Witchell is survived by two children, Barton E. Witchellof Bartlesville, Okla., and Mrs. Mary Campbell of this city. Alsosurviving are three grandchildren, one great grandchild and onesister, Laura Aten of Vermont. Mrs. Witchell had resided in Vermontfor many years before making this city hre home for seven years. Shewas a member of the Vermont Christian Church. Funeral services wereheld on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Presbyterian church, withthe Rev. Allen Van Cleve officiating. Burial was in the Vermontcemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Chick, Clare Foster, WhitnahCampbell, Mose Boyd, Keith Holmes, and Russell Boozell."


Harold Sigabee WITCHELL

(Obituary, Vermont Union, 16 Sep 1914)
          "During the electrical stormMonday evening, Harold Witchell, aged fifteen years, of Vermont waskilled by lightning while in the school room. Harold was a student ofof Vermont High School and it was just before time for dismissal whenthe storm came up. He and a classmate, the son of the principal, wereleaning against the radiator near the open window when the flash came,and he was knocked down. When asked if he was hurt he explained, "Oh,my stomach and legs". He was immediately carried to the residence of Dr. bunch, just opposite the school building, where he passed away ina few minutes. The lad that was standing near him when the flash camewas stunned, but no one else was injured. Harold Witchell, youngestson of of Mr. & Mrs. Walter Witchell, was born in Vermont, Aug. 12,1899, where his brief span of life was spent. Ernest and studious, hewon the love of his teachers and was always at the head of his class.He was popular among his schoolmates, because of his noble traits ofcharacter. In his home he was a dutiful son and affectionate brother,always ready and willing to perform any task that would save mother astep. Besides his grief stricken parents he is survived by onebrother, Barton, of Muskogee, Okla., and one sister, Mary, at home,whose hearts are sad because of the untimely death of one they lovedso dearly. Impressive funeral services were held from the home inVermont yesterday afternoon, after which the remains were laid to restin the Vermont Cemetery."
