Joseph Tipton JOBE

Johnson City, Tennessee was build on their land and one of the principle streets is Tipton Street.


Samuel Evans MASSENGILL

Dr. Jobe early boyhood days were spent on a fram near Blountville. He taught school for a while and also helped in several county offices and other work.  As to his education, he attended Jefferson Acamedy  King College and Roanoke College, and in  1899 took an M. D. degree at the University of Nashville, but took up drug work rather than practice of Medicine: first as a drug salesman, and later, the manufacture of drugs together with his brother, N. H. Massengill.
    The firm finally developed into the present firm of S. E. Massengill Company. Located at Bristol, Tennessee/ Virginia  with branch distributing houses in several larg cities including Kansas City, Missouri and New York, City.
    Dr. Massengil was of a kind, friendly and generous disposition and his descendants may be justly proud of his achievement and although he has passed from our midst, his memory will always be cherished by his loved ones and friends.

     " It is with profound regret that the editor record the death of Dr. S. E. Massengill who died, December 15, 1946."
    Death brought grief to the massengill family for the second time with in two weeks when  John Tipton Massengill, 45  son of Mrs. Samuel Evans Massengill and the late Dr. S. E. Massengill died at his home at Wichita Falls , Texas, at 2:00 O'Cock December 25 1946.

His early training was obtained from the public schools of the county of his birth: he ented Emory and Henry College as a student in 1898, graduting in 1903 with an A. B. Degree.
    He taught in the County High Schools till 1911, having had a course at Harvard University, and having traveled extensively in Europe.
    In 1911 he took up the study of law in Columbia University, took a Master's degree in Political Science in 1913, and was graduated from that institution with an LL.B. degree in 1914. Lastly he located in Bristol, where he is a prominent attorney, He has served as Commonwealth Attorney of Bristol, Virginia and a member of the House of Delegates of Virginia two terms, 1922/ 1926.


Harriet Pauline MASSENGILL

She attended the public schools in Bristol, and graduated with an A. B. degree from Shorter College, Rome, Geirgia, in 1917.
    She has held many position os honor in the women's clubs of her town.
