Melrose 6-23-1887
   Brother  Joseph and family I received a letter yesterday from Aseneth she was at Huldah, she said she would go to Newby Some time this week then she said she wanted to see you and yours now and if it is so that you can bring your
family and come here we will have 2 visits at once if you can come write to Aseneth direct to Oasis.  Johnson Co., Iowa, She said she would stay there a week or two she dont want to get in the old neighborhood and she knows some of them would be slighted so if you can come I wood be glad pleas let us hear from you anyway well I have not worked in the railroad Since in February I have repaired my house and done some other carpenter work and  rested some well I guess I have written enough for this time we are well as usual and hope this may find you the same Yours Truly

   He lived in Melrose, Iowa many years before coming to Emporia, Kansas.  Served in Company K-41A Calvary, in the Civil War.
