Joh C. Tipton, aprominent citizen of Ashland and Catlettsburg, Kentucky is another man who has worked himself to the front by hard work and perseverance.
    When only a young man, he left his home in Maysville, Kentucky and located in Ashland, Kentucky, wishing to start out alone to make his own way in the world. He soon got a job in the brick yards earning the small sum of fifty cents per day for his labor. He made a rule for himself that he wouls save one half of whatever he earned.
   He saved his quarters until he had accumulated $25.oo then looked around and found a small lot that he could buy on the installment plan.  He finally got the lot paid for and immediately proceeded to arrange with the Building and Loasn Company to put a house on the lot, the rent from The house would make the regular payments for the loan.
     As soon as this transaction was completed, he began to save for the purchase of another lot and after completing the payment on the second lot, another house was built with the assistance of the Building and Loan Company.
     He continued with this method until he now keeps from 75 to 80 houses for rents.
    After the fist house was completely paid for he was in a position to live more in keeping with his wishes, but he persistantly bought more lots and built more houses scattered all the way between  Ashland and Catlettsburg, Kentucky.
    For Several years he held the position of Probation Officer.
    His present beautiful home is situated on the south side of Winchester Avenue between Ashland and Catlettsburg, Kentucky where he and his good wife, who was Nell S. Claggett born of pure English Stock are spending their years in happiness.
    Mr. Tipton and his wife have reared to maturity, four children, Arrain who married Dr. K. B. Hord, Eileen who married Mr. Wayne Buckley, Arthur C. who married Anna Blythe and John W. Who has been in the drug business for sereral years.  John's wife  was Beulah Holbrook.
    John W. Tipton is also the present Post Master at Catlettsbrg, Kentucky.
