James was killed in a train accinent at Cadiz, Ohio. He had seven children, but only two of them lived to raise a family.
After the death of her husband, Maggie Tipton moved with her son, Charles Elmer and James Edmond to Uricheville, near Cadiz, Ohio, Charles E was only a small boy, but he bercame employed on the railroad to help his mother and worked his way up to Conductor. Maggie lived with her son Charles after his marriage. Later they moved to Brewster, Ohio.

After his father, James Steward Tipton was killed by a train, Charles at the age of 14, got a job on the Railroad to help his mother, first asa brakeman, thought small town nearby. Charles was a tall handsome man with a dry sense of humor. When he spoke his words were well chosen, both of his sons followed him into the Railroad business.
Married by her cousin, Rev. William Tipton.
