Newton was a Private in Co., H., 3rd Regiment Tennessee Cavalry. He enlisted on November 12, 1863 at Nashville, TN. He died at hospital no. 19 on May 17th, 1864 from measles. He was stationed at camp Catlett in Nashville. He was 5', 6'' tall with blue eyes, fair complexion and fair hair.
