He was often called "Horseshoes Jonathan" He was said to have been the strongest man in Estill County, Kentucky. The way in which he earned this appilation, came about in this manner; There was a "Bully" in the adjoining County who heard of Jonathan's great strenght and sent word that he had whipped all comers in his section of the County and he would be in Irvine, Kentucky the following Saturday and that he would ride KJonathan in the court House Yard. Jonathan Tipton was a blacksmith by trade. He was not afraid of anybody,. But said there would probably no good come from such a deal, but would westle if challenged. So he prepared to have some fun with the bully. He took a pease of lead and made a perfect horse shoe of it and place it on his forge. On the appointed Saturday the " bully" walked into the blacksmith shop and said; "I have come to westle with you in the Court House Yard" Jonathan said " Alright wait until I put a shoe on this horse." He then picked up the lead shoe and siad." this won't do.: and twisting it out of shap he threw it in the tub of water. The"Bully" looked at Jonathan a moment and said, Say if you can bend a horse shoe like that I don't want to westle with you" and walked out.

After Mr. Tipton death, his widow married Mr. George Walrath who was, I brlieve a retired saleman.
As Mrs. Walrath she continued to work on the Edwards estate: She has spent many years in working out the details and claims against the Edward's estate. She has the case well in hand andposesses much evidence, substantiated by able jurists and it now looks as if these millions will soon br turned over to the legal heirs..
A committe representing Andrew Carnegie, Rockfeller and two or three others called for a consultation with Mr. Walrath and asked hiom what his wife wanted. Mr walrath said "I am not doing this, my wife is doing it'. The committee then said, Thake your wife home and stop her proceeding and we will give you Fifty Thousand Dollars. Mr Walrath asked, How about the balance of the heirs? and they said " To Hell with the rest of them It is your wife that we want to stop" Mr Walrath Said, " Then to Hell with all of you, you can't buy us off.
