Notes

John SAMPSON

Line in Record @I663@ (RIN 282984) from GEDCOM file not recognized:
OCCU a farmer

John was a very wealthy landed farmer. In his will of 1798 he gave Drym Farm, Crowan to his son Richard, Sparnon Farm to his son William and Lower Prospidneck Farm to his other sons Thomas & George.

William SAMPSON

William left a will, a copy of which is with Wendy Taylor.

Margaret TREWHELLA

The Crowan registers are illegible for the period covering the baptism of Margaret. It is believed that her parents were Thomas & Mary as her husband William Sampson was a witness for the Letters of Adminstration of Mary Trewhella, widow of Thomas.

William Tucker DONALD

William is shown on the 1992 IGI as John Tucker Donald.

William BARTEL

Line in Record @I1521@ (RIN 283842) from GEDCOM file not recognized:
OCCU a miner

John REPPER

The IGI records the baptism of Paul Hockin Ripper at Helston on 27 Nov 1782.

When researching the registers I found no entry for this but did find Sarah Hocking Ripper baptised 17 Nov 1782.

I have a record that says that when Raymond RIPPER searched the burials he found the burial of Paul Hockin Ripper on 11 Feb 1783 as an infant.  This needs much closer inspection.

William RIPPER

In 1755 William witnessed the marriage of Ann Bryant to Benjamin Ripper.

In the Helston Overseers Accounts for 1767 a record indicates "Paid William Ripper with his son Roger £3". This could be an apprenticeship payment.

Margaret CARTER

It is possible that this Margaret is a sibling of John, Elizabeth, Jone and Mary, the children of John Carter and Wilmot Phillips, married in Sithney on 29 January 1719.

Roger RIPPER

In the Helston Overseers Accounts for 1767 an entry reads "Paid William Ripper with his son Roger £3. This could be an apprenticeship payment.

Charlotte Hocken RIPPER

The Overseers of the Poor were empowered to arrest and fine the fathers of illegitimate children and "In 1808 Geon Hubbard spent 10/- at Helstone on taking the depositions of Elizabeth Carlyon, Charlotte Ripper and Ann Brown on bastardy" (extracted from 'Breage in the 18th Century' by G H Doble, part of a larger work called 'Cornish Saints'.

Thomas Vigus Laurance RIPPER

Thomas' baptism is recorded as the son of Charlotte but it appears the father may have been Peter Knight although the marriage of Charlotte to Peter did not take place until October 1809. The middle names of Vigus Laurence may, however, point to another father.
