Joachim Hansen was a prosperous farmer. Both he and his wife Christina were natives of Southern Denmark. Sometime after their marriage, the territory in which they lived was annexed to Germany, and they automatically became citizens of Germany. (Now Wittkiel Kappeln, Schelswig-Holstein, Germany) In his middle years Joachim sustained a fall which left him a invalid for the rest of his life. Both Joachim and Christina were Lutherans. They had four sons.

Christian remained in Germany and inherited his father's farm.
Johannes remained in Germany and became a Civil Engineer.
Leopold Moritz was born August 4, 1826 in Braunschweig, Germany and Emigrated to the United States in 1851. He married Miss Auguste Dorothea Charlotte Wurll in Campbellton, Missouri, and for some years the Schaeffers lived in Missouri Leopold enlisted in the federal Army at Benton Barracks, Missouri, on November 12, 1861, but was transferred to company G., 43rd Regiment Illinois Infantry and served at the Quartermaster's Department. He was honorably discharged on December 16, 1864 at Little Rock, Arkansas.
After his discharge the family moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, where he operated a country store. They later moved to Campbellton, Missouri where he took over the management of his father-in-law's farm. He also acted as Deputy Assessor. After his wives death he made his home with his daughter and son-in-law (Caroline and Fred Hansen) at Campbellton, Missouri although he frequently remained at the Old Soldiers' Home in Leavenworth for long periods of time.
In 1897 Leopold entered the Infirmary at Washington D.C., where he died on February 4, 1898, and his body was interred on the grounds of the Infirmary.

Leopold Moritz Schaeffer Jr. was born October 3, 1865. He was a bachelor and owned a farm at Basehor, Kansas. It was rumored that he sold his farm for cash and carried the money with him; also that he had been murdered (evidently for his money) but no confirmation of this was ever received as he did not keep in touch with his family. Last heard of was in October 1899.
Gustav Adolph Schaeffer was born Aug 9, 1871 and died Julu 12 1894. After his mothers death (December 19. 1883) when Gustav was but 12 years old he went to live with his sister, Mrs. caroline Hansen. He died when he was 23 years old as a result of a childhood illness (dropsy), and was buried in the private cemetery on his Grandfathers Wurll's farm.
Fred was born on his mother 29th birthday. He had a sheep ranch near Laramie, Wyoming. He married Hazel Bingham Foust who had a daughter Dawn by a previous marriage. Hazel's family (The Binghams) was descended from Lord Bingham of England. Fred and Hazel had two sons, Frank and Earle. Hazel died at an early age on December 8, 1924. Fred's sister Nelda went to Laramie to care for the children; she stayed with Fred until the children were grown.

Lee was also a stenographer, she worked for the United States Government. She went to Little Rock, Arkansas to work. She married Elbert Lee Scott, District Manager of the Curtis Publishing Company. They had two sons, Lee Hansen and Elbert Lee. They lived in Atlanta, Kissimmee, and then Tallahassee. Lee's husband died while they were living in Tallahassee. Lee later moved to a retirement home in St. Petersburg, Florida, so she could be near her son Lee and his wife.

George served in the Army during world War I. He married Mrs. Helen Egelhoff Wells sho had a daughter Neoma by a previous marriage. Helens first husband was of American Indian and English descent. George worked for the U.S. Post Office in St. Louis for over 50 years and was given a Gold Medal by the Governament of the United States. George and Helen had three sons and a daughter, Dale George, Myrl Robert, Nolan Edward and Nadine Carolyn.
